I've still been able to exercise around the lake most mornings this summer. I wasn't sure how that would go with all three kids at home (which is initially why we were pushing the whole bike riding thing earlier this summer--so that Cody could ride while I pushed the girls in the jogger). But as you might remember, (and if you don't you can check it out HERE) Cody was not on board with that. Thanks to Grandpa Dean who, after seeing our blog post about unsuccessfully teaching the kids to ride a bike, sent us a youtube video on how to teach your child to ride a bike in 60 minutes. We gave it a try and it totally worked!
So, once Cody learned to ride we thought he would be ready to go to the park. But, he only wanted to ride in our neighborhood. We even brought the bike one day to the lake and he wouldn't even touch it. It was a disaster.
Until this week the kids have been taking turns using our one scooter (which is better than nothing!)
Throughout the summer I've been suggesting to Cody that he wouldn't have to wait for a turn on the scooter if he was riding his own bike the whole time. And whenever he felt sweaty and hot? I would nicely mention that riding a bike gives you a nice cool breeze. And when he was tired of running/walking with me? You guessed it. I would tell him that riding a bike is much easier than running.
Well, we had a major breakthrough this week! I told Cody on Tuesday morning that we were going to bring the bike and it was going to be no big deal. He didn't resist. He totally went for it! Check it out for yourself in the video below...
In the end of the first video you see a guy running behind Cody. That is the "brown hulk" that the kids are talking about in this video.
And then we headed to the Scout store to buy Cody's new uniform and Wolf book.
He's going to love Cub Scouts. (He actually already went to a Swim Party with the Scouts last week and had a blast).
And just as I predicted this is how he spent the rest of the day...reading almost the entire Wolf book while wearing his Scout uniform!!
Steve was in Pennsylvania for a few days this week helping out at Girl's Camp. When he came home Cody had transformed into a biking Cub Scout! (And Cody has biked every day this week taking 5 minutes off his time each day).
P.S. Click HERE to see the video on how to teach your kids to ride in 60 minutes. And then my dad sent this video HERE which comes after the 60 minutes of learning. :)
