We Rocked the Mommy-Daddy Homework

This week marked the first of many projects my friend calls "Mommy-Daddy Homework." Cody was given a project in his GT bridge class to research a famous bridge in the world, write about it, and make a replica. Translation: Mommy-Daddy Homework. :)

Cody chose to do the Storebaelt Bridge in Denmark. Steve and Cody had a lot of fun working on it together. And I helped Cody do the research on the computer and it was fun learning new things. I'm really glad Cody likes his GT classes, but the late nights and added time doing homework (which is too much already) made this week more challenging for all of us. Up until now, Cody's GT classes haven't required much work outside the classroom. I think that won't be the case much longer as he gets older.

One funny thing was Cody made it very clear to us that we weren't supposed to buy anything for this project. We should only use materials we have around the house. He used toothpicks, twine, wood skewers, wood glue, and construction paper. It is really sturdy and I think it turned out great. After school I asked him about the other bridges. He said one student did the Golden Gate Bridge at night complete with LED lights on the bridge. Steve said, "So you're telling me that kid just had LED lights laying around his house!?" 

Right.

The good news is Steve and I and Cody all got an A on our bridge!

At least we know we make a good team!

P.S. Maybe I should go buy some LED lights so I can have some of those around the house...just in case :)

{Random} Phone Pictures

I have a whole bunch of pictures that never got blogged because I took them with my phone. So here are a few random photos from September and October...

Livy is always into something she shouldn't be. While I was getting ready for the day she helped herself to my make-up. When she pulled out the mascara I told her it was not for her eyes (meaning, it was for MY eyes not hers). Well, she took that to mean that it must be for her lips if it wasn't for her eyes.

While dishing up some peanuts at Five Guys, Livy got attacked by the peanut shell dust. I don't exactly know how it happened...I was holding her, she was holding the peanuts and then all of a sudden she was covered in dust and a scowl.

While Steve and I were car shopping, Kylee was teaching us a thing or two. "Dad, when you're cool you have to put your arm out the window."

Cody went to his first bike rodeo for Cub Scouts and loved it. He learned to swim and bike just in time to be a scout!

Livy watches Elmo's Potty Time almost every day now. She thinks it's really cool that Elmo uses the toilet, but doesn't care to try it out herself...yet. Steve and I made this desk. It's our first wood-working project! Hopefully there will be many more to come.

Cody fell asleep with a mustache on the other night. What a goofball.

For our 9th Anniversary Steve took work off early and took me out to lunch to a famous Mexican place that is connected to a gas station and is so tiny. We sat at one of two counters (with two barstools each) but the place was hopping. Even at 2:00 in the afternoon there was a steady stream of customers. 

There is a glass partition behind me separating it from the gas station. 

The food was awesome!

Cody and Kylee had fun with the scraps of wood from our desk. Cody hammered in and removed nails while Kylee colored on her scraps (of course!). It reminded me of playing in my grandpa's wood shop as a kid and being entertained for hours.

Livy loves wearing hats.

My sister Brooke had the brilliant idea of framing this picture from Aubrey's wedding this past summer for my dad's birthday. I love how it turned out!
