Our First Few Days in "the Burgh"

Saturday August 1: drove into Pittsburgh about 8:30 am ~ went through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and came out to a stunning view of downtown ~ side streets are absolutely CrAzY (windy, narrow, one-way, and steep) ~ made it to our new home and took a look inside for the first time (it was better than we expected!) ~ within 15 minutes of getting settled we met our wonderful neighbors (Mike & Martina and daughter Ellie) and our kids became instant friends ~ Martina watched the kids while we got a few things unloaded ~ went to Giant Eagle (the local grocery store) and got ripped off ($5 for one red pepper) ~ guys from the ward came over and had the truck unloaded in an hour ~ one of the guys brought us raspberry plants (dream come true for Steve) ~ another guy from the ward offered to go with Steve to drop off the moving truck (so he wouldn't get lost) and showed him how to get to church and some other places ~ Steve learned what a "Pittsburgh left" is (where you turn left BEFORE the oncoming traffic crosses the intersection) ~ tried to unpack, but didn't do much (we were exhausted from a week of driving!)

Sunday August 2: had a nice easy morning getting ready for church ~ went to church at 1:00 and didn't get lost (I still don't know how to get to church-good thing Steve does) ~ we were welcomed by Bishop Lyon and FOUR sets of Elders ~ Cody went straight into Primary without ANY hesitation ~ met lots of nice people ~ met with the bishop after church so he could answer our questions and get to know us ~ went straight to the Cooper's (our closest ward neighbors a few miles away) for dinner with them and the Olsen's ~ played with our new friends until bedtime

Monday August 3: signed up for a Costco membership and bought lots of yummy groceries without getting ripped off ($6 for 6 red peppers) ~ start feeling better about knowing where Costco is and getting there on my own ~ spent the rest of the day unpacking and getting organized and eating really good food ~ cleared away the wild strawberry plants in our backyard to make room for the raspberry plants we were given

Tuesday August 4: went to playgroup with some other families from the ward ~ I found the park all by myself! ~ Martina and Ellie came with us and had lots of fun ~ while we were gone Steve went to campus and got a few things set up (it was like Christmas morning--he was so excited) ~ unpacked ~ went outside so Cody could ride his bike and ended up playing with Ellie and talking with neighbors all night and not wanting to go inside

P.S. pictures coming soon! thanks for all of your prayers and help getting moved!
