Field Day & an Indiana Road Trip

We decided to make a quick trip over Memorial Day weekend to Indiana to meet baby Allie. The Friday we left was Field Day at school for Cody and Kylee and since they had been counting down the days for a month we thought we better leave for Indiana after Field Day was over so they wouldn't miss it.

The night before our trip I still had to finish my quilt for Allie and pack. Because of that I wasn't planning on helping out at Field Day even though the kids wanted me to. That morning as the kids were getting ready for school I started packing. Steve decided to stay home from work and pack the car so that I could go to Field Day. What a nice guy!

It was a sunny day, but there was a really cold wind so we weren't very prepared. Liv wore my jacket the whole time.

I helped out with "Nemo's Swim Race." There's Cody in the middle. The kids had to put a giant fish on there head and run a race.

As soon as the games were over we headed home and jumped in our packed car (thanks to Steve!) We let the kids take over the back seat and put down the middle row so they could put their feet up and relax.

The next day we went to the little zoo by Lacey and Tyler's house. Cody and Colton checked out the Willoughby.

The emu kept tapping his beak on the glass every time the kids put their hands on the window.

And then played with the baby goats. They were a little bigger than the chickens.

Kylee was in charge of the camera for a lot of the time at the zoo.

Kylee was watching Cody with this goat and then she turned to me and said she wanted to hold a baby goat. I told her to go for it....and she did!

Colton loves Steve and would just come over and give him pats and hugs throughout the weekend.

Colton got a hold of a bag of chips on the counter and went to town.

Kylee was so good with Colton the whole weekend. She's going to be a great babysitter someday. They hung out in the tent together for a long time.

Tyler gave us a tour of his lab. All the kids had fun climbing in and out of the equipment.

And I finished my quilt at 11:00pm the night before we left! Allie agreed to model it for me.

For the Fun of it

A few weeks ago the boys went camping and the girls partied at home. Olivia wasn't feeling well and fell asleep early so Kylee and I watched a video on making cake pops right before bed. Kylee wanted cake pops so much she could hardly settle down to sleep. So I told her we could buy stuff and make some.

Let me just say cake pops are A LOT of work: making the cake, baking it, crumbling it, making frosting, combining the cake and frosting, forming it into balls, chilling them in the fridge, dipping them, chilling them again, decorating them, chilling them AGAIN, and then you can eat them. The whole process took us at least a week (between school, recitals, concerts, lesson, scouts, and meetings).

Although cake pops are fun to look at and decorate, I'm all about the speedy sugar intake. Sometimes making cookies seems too long and I just make cookie dough or eat chocolate chips to cut down on the time it takes for the sugar to reach my blood stream.

All three of them had fun mixing the frosting in to the cake crumbs and forming balls.

And then the cake balls "chilled" in the fridge for a week while life went on. :)

Then, while Steve was gone on a Scout campout we finally buckled down and they finished their cake pops. Well, they were more like cake plops because the balls fell apart a bit, but they had fun and we had a good laugh.

Cody was saying, "Dance, dance, dance, dance....STOP! Dance, dance, dance...STOP!"

And the girls were loving it.

I'll take dance parties any day over breakdowns :)
