Philadelphia, Valley Forge, Fort McHenry, and Gettysburg

We took a few day trips while my mom was here for a visit. First, we took a trip to Philadelphia. Before seeing the historic stuff, we checked out the stadiums for my sports-loving mom.

The stadiums for the 76ers, Phillies, and the Eagles are all right next to each other.

Then, we took a quick detour across a toll bridge into New Jersey so that Steve could cross that state off his list. Check! We also went through a corner of Delaware on our way up. I hate to say it but he has officially bypassed me in the state contest now. Anyone want to take a road trip to Tennessee, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Michigan? :)

We made it! Behind us is Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

We waited in line and saw the Liberty Bell!!
I promise Livy is the happiest girl almost all of the time--unless you try to take her picture.

It was a lot easier to take my mom's picture :)

Kylee was really excited to see the Liberty Bell because she had learned about it in Kindergarten.

Independence Hall up close.

For lunch we walked over to Sonny's. The line was out the door so we knew it was going to be awesome.

Steve and I were twins that day so we decided to take a picture of our feet while we waited in line.

The tiny restaurant was packed but we were able to snag a table in the back by the bathrooms.

The food was awesome. Everyone enjoyed it! And that says a lot.

From Sonny's we walked to Christ's Church (a beautiful old church where many of the founding fathers attended). Then we took a tour of the U.S. Coin Mint to see how coins are made.

Instead of taking the same route home we went home by way of Valley Forge (and avoided toll roads too!)

Valley Forge is so beautiful and peaceful.

A few days later we went out to Fort McHenry and explored inside the Fort. We'd never been inside so it was fun to see what it looked like. Kylee and Livy liked the cannonballs.

We got there just in time to see them fire a cannon and hear the Fife and Drum music.

On our day trip to Gettysburg the weather was perfect. Our summer has been so mild this year. We did an auto tour (where you drive around while listening to a guide on a CD tell you about the different sites).

I didn't get very many pictures because I was driving, but I did manage to get a few from this observation tower.

The kids did amazing considering they were in the car from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 pm except for a lunch break. They are awesome and I'm really lucky to be their mom.

I love love love having family come visit because it always inspires me to go to new places! Random fact: I lived in Valley Forge for a year when I was 3. I don't remember any of it, but I still claim it. Are you coming out here at all soon?
