The week before General Conference we got a new tent for our family since our plan is to camp a lot this summer. The kids were so excited to put it up and check it out. So, while Steve went to the Priesthood Session of conference the kids had a little tent party with their sleeping bags that they love so much from Grandma Ellen.
What did we do for our tent party, you ask?
The tent party consisted of putting up the tent, arranging the sleeping bags and pillows, reading family scriptures while trying to keep children out of the tent, taking a picture with dad before he headed off to his meeting, mom reading a chapter in "Little House on the Prairie", mom pausing intermittently to tell the children to stop rolling on top of each other or stop making noise by zipping their arms and legs across the tent so that no one else could hear the story, Livy moving on top of Cody and away from Kylee because "she stinks", mom finishing one chapter and closing the book, mom scooting Livy away from Cody for the hundredth time, mom closing the blinds, mom turning off the lights, kids slipping every direction, mom turning on the light again, mom bringing in a quilt to put under the sleeping bags so the children can go to sleep without slipping out of their sleeping bags every time they move, mom bringing a nightlight into the tent so the girls aren't scared, Livy blinding mom with the nightlight, mom moving the nightlight out of reach on the other side of the room, mom laying down next to Livy so that she will settle down, mom singing Primary songs for a long time until the movement stops and the heavy breathing starts, mom going upstairs to read in bed until dad comes home from his meeting.
So, as you can see the tent party was a success! Maybe we can make this a General Conference tradition. After six months mom might be ready to do it again. :)
