Last week while my parents were here we went to Mt. Vernon. This is my favorite U.S. history site. Steve had to stay behind and go to work, but the rest of us had a great time.
Kylee, Cody, George, Grandma, Martha, Livy, and Grandpa.
(George Washington was a pretty tall guy).
It's looking like I don't like Martha in this picture, but there's no disrespect. I just couldn't fit in between George and Martha with my camera bag and Livy. I guess I should have stood on the end.
Here is the beautiful house. The grounds are so beautiful and I love learning about George Washington.
(Up until last year the house was white--which I personally liked better. I guess it was discovered that at the time of Washington's death in 1799 the house was no longer white. It was the sand that they mixed with the paint to create a stone look that changed the color of the house.)
At the gift shop the kids turned in their puzzle map with the answers filled in for a pressed penny with Mt Vernon on it.
They have a cute little kids area in the museum. Kylee's favorite part was playing with the Mt Vernon doll house. There were coloring pages, books, and costumes too.
And here's Kylee in a costume. She looked cute but she didn't like it so I couldn't get her to smile.
