Our kids always say funny things, but it's hard to re-capture the moment because writing it down just doesn't seem to do it justice. Sometimes you just have to be there. Here's an attempt to record some of the funniness that goes on around here...
1.
One night at bedtime I walked into my bathroom to find Kylee in her pajamas sitting on the countertop brushing her teeth. Wow! I was so impressed. After telling her how great it was that she was getting ready for bed all by herself she said, "I'm just practicing for when I'm five."
2.
When the kids are all home and awake it seems like they all want to talk to me at the same time (not to mention, I am usually trying to not burn dinner or talk on the phone right at the same moment). Kylee wants you to reach something for her or tell her how to spell something, Cody wants to tell you about a book he is reading or a fact he has learned, and Livy wants someone to sit and read with her or to eat a snack. It is so hard to express to them that you really do want to hear what they have to say, but that you can't listen to them all at the same time. One day they were all competing for my attention and finally I called a time out. I said, "I'm so sorry. I wish I had 200 arms and 50 ears so I could do everything at the same time." Cody thought that sounded cool.
Kylee, on the other hand, quickly said in a very matter of fact voice, "Yeah, but you would look REALLY weird, did you think of that?"
3.
One morning about 5 minutes before we needed to leave for Cody's bus it hit me that the kids needed to take showers that morning and I had spaced it. When I said something about it (mostly to myself) Kylee, grabbing Cody by the shoulders with one arm and holding her other arm out to the side, said in a dramatic tone, "We're DOOOOOOMED!" No idea where she got that from, but it was hilarious.
4.
Livy loves to sing "E I E I O" and that's usually how you know she is awake. She doesn't sing the rest of the song, just that line.
5.
If you want to read a book with Liv prepare to get cozy and stay awhile. After she hands you a book and you sit down with her she immediately walks away before you have a chance to start reading. She finds Nacho the Turtle, her baby doll, and a big blanket and drags them over to you. Once she is sitting down with her toys and the blanket covering her lap she is ready to begin.
6.
Livy likes to play tag. She doesn't really understand the whole concept but if the other kids are playing she is right there with them. She loves to run around and touch people and yell "tag!" laughing the whole time. Sometimes when no one is playing tag she will just run up to you randomly and yell tag and run away. She'll also run up to you and say, "tricked ya!" and run away, which she also learned from her brother and sister.
7.
I can't remember if I was singing a song or what, but Kylee asked me why I was saying that. I told her, "because I am the funnest mom in the whole world!"
In a really nice way Cody said, "Well, you can't really know that you are the funnest mom in the whole world. What if there are other moms that are more fun. Like what if there are other moms that let their kids get as many books as they want from the library?"
Then Kylee said in a sweet voice, "but it's OK because you are still the funnest mom in our family!"
8.
Livy LOVES her pajamas. She can't wait to put them on after dinner. I have to watch out if I am folding laundry and she sees her pajamas because she will want me to put them on right then. The funny part is when she comes down the stairs after getting her pj's on. She has this glowing smile and both hands are pointing at her pajamas. She wants everyone to know that she finally has her jammies on again.
9.
When the kids are really thirsty and drinking a lot I will usually comment by saying, "chug-a-lug!" And Kylee has adopted it as well only she says, "chuggin'" and she says it any time someone is doing anything fast (not just drinking). Whether it be eating, cleaning up, or whatever. If you're doing it fast you're chuggin' it!
10.
Speaking of pajamas, someone told our kids that if they sleep with a spoon under their pillow and turn their pajamas inside out then it will snow. Well, they have been sleeping with their pajamas inside out for about 2 months now. I think there was one day in that period that they actually woke up to snow. We woke up to happy kids yelling, "it worked!"
The other day Steve was in the middle of telling a co-worker that his kids wear their pajamas inside out because....and then she finished the sentence. She knew all about it. I hadn't ever heard it before.
11.
Yesterday Kylee said, "Dad told me last night that if I had bad dreams all night that he would stay with me all night and if I had bad dreams for a little bit that he would stay with me for a little bit. Well, I had a bad dream and I said his name softly so that I wouldn't wake up Livy and he never came."
12.
While helping Kylee brush her teeth last night she said, "So, mom, you got any news?"
Me: "What do you mean?"
K: "Tell me some news."
Me: "I don't have any news."
K: "OK, I'll tell you some news. But you have to be 14 to hear it. Are you older than 14?"
Me: Trying really hard not to laugh..."Yes"
K: "You were 14 before I was born, right?"
Me: "Yep. So, what's the news?"
K: "Well....Actually, let's pretend like I'm 14. OK, now you tell me some news."
We never did exchange any news.
