Help! My Menu is in a Rut
Do you ever feel like you are in a rut with your meal planning? I am feeling that way right now. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas to get me going again. I am especially interested in any great ideas that are toddler friendly. I have been really trying to provide healthier meals and expose Cody to a variety of foods instead of just sticking with his basics...even if it means he just tries one bite, which is a huge step. In my children's nutrition class I had to read a book about feeding children and it said that children-especially toddlers-are neophobic (scared of new things) and that it takes being exposed to a particular food sometimes as much as 14 times before they will try the food or be comfortable eating it. So I am really working on exposing Cody to the world of food. A year ago we could get him to eat anything and now even the things he loved then are turned down. His new phrase is, "that grosses me out." Oops. I think he got that from me (being pregnant makes me gross out easier). Do you have any ideas for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner? What are some of the ways that you incorporate vegetables throughout the day? What are some dishes that are budget friendly? What are some ideas of what to pack in a lunch for Steve on school days where there is no microwave or fridge? As you can see, any ideas you might have are welcome and greatly needed. Help!

Carson went through a really bad eating phase. I think he just lived on milk in a sippy for months. I just kept making my usual meals and offering it to him every day...and every day he left it there and I threw it away. But now he really eats most things I make. I'm not sure how he got over the hurdle. Maybe he just got tired of being hungry? We did try to limit his milk intake a little and I think that made him hungry enough to want food.
Check our Food for thought blog on Becky's or Carillisa's or my blogs, there are a lot of ideas on there.
Well, you are not alone. I seem to run into a rut about every few months or so. We are always trying new recipes at our house (and as DeAnna mentioned, a lot of those I post on Food For Thought). If you are interested, send me your address, or reply with it on the food blog, and I'll reply with a few recipes from our book.
With my kids, I made them take at least one bite. Usually, they didn't like it, but in a few months, we'd have it again and I'd make them try it a second time and then a third. Just keep at it, eventually, they'll eat it. My kids will eat almost anything besides mushrooms, tomatoes and Gavin's doesn't care for shrimp much. Other than that, they eventually learned to like it all. Be patient though, it can take months!
